The KL I Remember

(working title)

This project is about the scenes of Kuala Lumpur  (gradually which expanded into Petaling Jaya (see Suburbia) where I grew up and am currently residing in, as well as other parts of Malaysia) that I remember from my childhood up to my college years.

I was shooting candidly in film over the last two years, and realized with each roll of film that came out, something had already changed or is lost. Eventually my work became a part street, part documentary photography project.

I wanted to capture that which still remained of my memories, things no longer around, and the transition between the two states. As I generally take months to finish shooting one roll, each film canister was a time capsule in itself. The project involved revisiting places I've been to over the years, be it frequently or once a year and snapping them at a conventional time (a time when I would go there normally without a camera). The project primarily focuses on places. However, it grew to include fixtures, scenes and occasionally people I wish to remember.
